Poinsettia Bowl and Season Recap

Cougar fans, we've seen the football season come to a close. The ups and downs are now mercifully/sadly over. What a ride it's been.

We have a lot to talk about about the Poinsettia Bowl, in which BYU's special teams and defense man-handled the hapless SDSU Aztecs. But not all was rosy for the Cougars either, with an ineffective offense.

We talk about Coaching changes that may be coming. We know for sure that one coaching change is sure to happen with Lance Reynolds announcing his retirement. Are more to come? Coach Mark Weber? Brandon Doman? Defensive coaches?

Not all is bad news though, we think back over the 2012 season and talk about some of the great plays we saw and some of the best moments. It's a great walk down memory lane.

Finally, there's a little talk about the basketball team because, hey, it's basketball season!

Enjoy the podcast, Cougar fans!

Holy War Rivalry with reviews of Weber St.

Cougar fans, it's time for another CougarCorner podcast! Rivalry week has arrived and all the hoopla that goes with it. We have a great rivalry week coverage for you, but before we get to that, we review the Cougars game against the Wildcats of Weber St.

The Cougars came out a little vanilla against the Wildcats, but no one can complain about the resounding win (45-13). The offense had a lot going well, including 3 QBs scoring touchdowns, lots of guys running the ball, and even more guys caught the ball. Defensively, the Cougars looked pretty good too. The CougarCorner podcast staff breaks down the numbers and plays that Cougar fans will want to know about.

Next we turn our sights on the Utah Utes. What will the Cougars need to do offensively and defensively to come away with a win? We have the analysis and insights! What will the Utes do, coming off their heart breaking loss to USU and loss of senior leader Jordan Wynn? What would it take for them to be able to "rise-up?" We have that covered too. Finally, the CougarCorner experts share their vision of what will happen, and what it means for Cougar fans.

In a fully new segment, we take a look at each of the 2012 opponents and discuss if their stock is rising or falling and how they are looking so we know how teams we've played are looking and how upcoming opponents may fair.

Speaking of upcoming opponents, don't forget about the Boise St. Caravan. We'd love to have you join us for a BYU game in Boise.

Finally we give some shoutouts to those deserving groups who are really excellent at what they do, such as the BYU Women's Soccer team, for their awesome weekly Cougar comic strip, and even Jimmer for the release of his new book, something all Cougar fans will want to read.

Take a listen to the Podcast and enjoy it. Let us know what you think, we're always anxious to hear back and improve!

Washington St. Review, Weber St. Preview, 4 Tough Games

Hello Cougar fans! It's time for another CougarCorner Podcast. This week, we introduce our new regular podcaster, Mars.

This week we review the Washington St. game in depth and share what worked and what didn't. Where the Cougars need to improve and where they looked in fine form. We have a lot of great insights and data into how the Cougars played (BYU and WSU!) and what to expect going forward.

Next we turn our attention to Weber State and how the Cougars should approach this game. BYU should win handily, but how will they use their players? Who will come in and when? And what surprises may Weber St. have in store for us? There may be a little break in the action here to talk about the upcoming Utah State Utah game too.

Finally, we rank the 4 toughest games this season and give our reasons why each game falls where it does. Find out which of the CougarCorner experts you agree with!

BYU Baselines of Success, Media Day, and why we love BYU

Hello Cougar fans, welcome to another podcast! Today Hawkwing is joined by SpiffCoug and Schmoe and we have a lot of BYU sports to talk about.

First we take a look at BYU's Media Day and dissect the news and information we learned from that. Did BYU mess up in not releasing scheduling news? Should Bronco be concerned about the future status of his players and their chances to get drafted into the NFL? What was great about Media Day and what wasn't?

Next we turn our attention to the upcoming 2012 BYU football season and what are our baselines for a successful season. We discuss where the team needs to be in terms of wins, points, as well as what position groups need to step up.

Whats the deal with the Holy War Rivalry? We talk about where we think it's gone, where it's going, and what should happen in the future. Who needs it? Who wants it? We talk about it.

Next we take a look at what is clearly the most tragic sports story in years. The terrible actions of Penn State to cover up abuse. This leads us to discuss what we love about BYU and the need for fans to hold their schools to higher standards.

Because of BYU's great standards Jabari Parker likes what he sees at BYU and we talk about his releasing a top 10 teams list which includes BYU. Great news for BYU fans everywhere.

Finally, we talk about Jimmer and his role this summer in the summer league.

We hope you enjoy listening to it nearly as much as we enjoy making it! As always, if you have any comments, come and visit us at the CougarCorner forums to talk with the best Cougar fans on the internet.

Cougar Football Bold Predictions, Senior QBs, Season Preview, and Jabari Parker

Welcome Cougar fans, it's the extremely popular CougarCorner Podcast.

The podcasters are back from their spring hiatus and they are ready to talk BYU. This week we cover the bold predictions that users made recently in the Bold Predictions thread. What was bold? What was weak sauce? We cover it ALL here*.

A big part of whether we hit some of those bold predictions, either positive or negative, depends this year on senior QB, Riley Nelson. Since CougarCorner's own SpiffCoug invented the PER standard for BYU QBs (135), Spiff and Hawkwing discuss what the standard is now for senior QBs. Listen to find out what it is.

Next we review the upcoming season in general and give a quick overview of how we think the season might go. Are we talking 11-1 or 8-5?

Not to be left out, the final Cougar corner is in the basketball realm and we talk about the hottest young recruit in the nation right now, Jabari Parker, and what it means for BYU to be on his list of potential schools. Does BYU really have a legitimate shot at this kid? We'll give you our take on it. And discuss, briefly, the upcoming basketball season.

No CougarCorner podcast is complete without a bonus Jimmer corner, and this week we give a special shout out and congratulations to Jimmer and Whitney on their recent nuptials. Congrats!

BYU Football Signing Day and BYU basketball preview for Gonzaga

Cougar fans, welcome to season 2 of the extremely popular CougarCorner Podcast.

Taking off where the guys left off in Season 1, the CougarCorner Podcasters talk about all the issues in Cougar sports. Today Chad and Scott talk about the BYU Cougars football signing class. Including 17 new signees and 12 returning freshman.

From there the guys turn their sights on the BYU Men's Basketball team. We talk about the Saint Mary's game and the student section's reaction to what was frankly a poorly officiated game. From there we talk about how not only the fans will need to improve against Gonzaga but the team will too and what it will take for a Cougar victory. Finally, for our 4th Cougar Corner, we talk about where BYU is on the bubble for the NCAA tournament and what we need to do to make it.

Of course our Jimmer corner covers Jimmer and his NBA experience. He's had his ups and downs and we're here to cover it for you!
